Squeeze

I love the look on Scully's face when the person conducting the polygraph asks Mulder's '100 year old' question.

As one of the most popular episodes, Squeeze is fairly well-trod ground. Mulder being territorial, for example, is well explored (I guess it's only harassment if Scully objects! She looks perplexed but then... kind of intrigued and follows him up the stairs).

Also, the extent to which Mulder is laughed at and made fun of is only alluded to until this episode (it seems to be contagiously affecting Scully's rep too; "Mrs. Spooky").

He does it to himself, you know. He totally does it on purpose. I mean, I know he actually sounds shocked when Scully refers to his 'reputation' ("Reputation? I have a reputation?"). But then when Tom says something about 'little green men', Mulder goes and does the whole 'The Reticulan skin tone is actually grey.." thing. He's not being serious! He's being weird! He's doing the 'you think I'm spooky, so I'll act spooky' thing! I've seen it so many times in real life...

M: "I have a reputation?"

The unsung hero in this ep to me, is the cop in the wheelchair who's had Tooms figured out for years, and is so happy that M & S have caught on, and are investigating him. This poor guy seems to have had no luck getting Tooms behind bars, despite his best efforts (truly his best, he's done a lot of work on this case!) And it really just makes his life to have M & S approach him, discovering that they have reached this point on their own; finally someone is able to do something about it! And then this guy cries when he reads that Tooms has been caught; seriously, I just feel so happy for him.

So many things to love about this episode. So well done; a real classic.
Bonus points for having the first Mulder-rescuing-Scully scene, the first comfortingly-grabbing-Mulder's-arm scene, and also, for having the baddest bad guy of all time.

... And one more cute one for good luck...
